WELCOME to ACPS S.T.E.A.M.
What is S.T.E.A.M.? I’m glad you ask. S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. In the S.T.E.A.M. lab we use hands-on activities to enrich our learning. Each week we focus on a different topic where students use their prior knowledge as well as some new concepts to find a solution to a problem. We use the Engineering Design Process to find these solutions. You might find us building bridges using popsicle sticks, designing a paper airplane and testing its flight ability, or maybe just building with LEGO blocks to see who can make the tallest building that stands on its own. The kids are excited to see what we will be getting our hands into each week.
Hello everyone! I am Melissa Johnson, and I’m the S.T.E.A.M. lab assistant. This is my first year in the S.T.E.A.M. lab, but my 14th year with the Appling County School System. I enjoy getting to work with all of the students at ACPS. I work hard every week to ensure that each student gets an opportunity to learn and grow. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a smile on their faces when they leave my classroom or hearing them talk about how much they enjoyed our activity.
I am currently attending Western Governors University to obtain my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have 2 beautiful daughters. When I’m not studying I enjoy reading, watching Hallmark movies, and spending time with my family.
