Superintendent of Schools, Scarlett Miles Copeland, is a life-long resident of Appling County and she is honored to serve in this position. She has a great desire to guide the school system in a positive direction and ultimately lead them to excellence in all areas. This is not a journey that can be accomplished alone; it is indeed a journey that must be embraced by all schools, our students, parents and community. Great accomplishments can happen for Appling County Schools when we partner together in this worthy endeavor.

Superintendent Copeland has served in Appling County in the educational field for almost twenty-six years. She graduated from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with certification to teach. She then moved to serve both Appling County Primary and Elementary Schools as counselor for one year and then totally served the Primary School for the next six years. During this time, she received her master’s in Educational Leadership and was chosen as Assistant Principal at Appling County Primary School. She served as Assistant Principal for four years and then was fortunate to be selected as the next Principal at ACPS. She led in this capacity for five and one-half years before being appointed Superintendent of Schools. During her tenure as Principal, she led ACPS to become a two-time Georgia School of Excellence and a National Blue Ribbon School.
